Macedonia has stepped up efforts to establish a national carrier with the government to launch tender procedures next week for a consultant to analyse the market and determine which established airline would be willing to assist in creating the country's new national airline. The company which will be granted a license to operate as Macedonia’s national carrier will have to have at least 51% of Macedonian capital and at least one aircraft registered in the country, either owned or leased. The Turkish TAV Airports Holding, which runs both of Macedonia’s international airports, said the country is in need of a national carrier in order to develop its aviation industry. Over the past twenty years, Macedonia has had two national carriers, both of which subsequently declared bankruptcy.
What is Wizz Air saying about this? They must not be happy.

DeleteIt all depends on how much money is Government of Macedonia willing to pump into new airline every year to keep it afloat. If it's a thing of national pride like Montenegro, it could cost Macedonia a lot of Euros.

DeleteBTW, in the local media today information about possible arrival of Vueling (with BCN) was launched, as a part of the second package of Gov't subsidies.
